Mission

RPM builds project management and leadership capacity in the research sector.

Origin Story

Research Project Management (RPM) was founded in 2013 by P. Alison Paprica, PhD PMP.

As the director responsible for up to $60 million (CAD) of research funding per year at the Ontario Ministry of Health, Alison observed that traditional project management approaches are often not helpful or applicable in the research sector.

In response, she developed a suite of tailored project management tools and processes for research that are shorter, simpler, and easier to apply than standard project management methodologies.

Alison's light-touch project management approach focuses on establishing a shared understanding of research scope at a high level. With as few as three pages of documentation, it helps clarify in-scope deliverables, timelines, roles, and responsibilities so research team members can work effectively together.

Since 2013, over 1,700 research team members – from principal investigators to graduate students – have participated in RPM webinars, workshops, group training, or individual coaching sessions.
